On Wednesday, October 8, students attended Kent State University’s “Arts Without Limits,” a day-long program focusing on arts entrepreneurship. Students participated in presentations and workshops around Fashion, Art, Theatre, Dance, Music, Visual Communications Design and Marketing/Branding. The purpose of the presentations was to help students understand possible careers and which majors would be best for various career paths.
Last Thursday, members of the Irish Club met Dr. Norah Patten. Dr. Patten will be Ireland’s first astronaut when she flies into space, as early as next year. During the discussion, Dr. Patten shared her research and the preparations she is making to fly into space. After her presentation, students asked questions about her research and how she became interested in space.
Last Wednesday, the Saint Joseph Academy community came together in the Academy Center for a Mass to celebrate Founders’ Day, which takes place annually around the founding date of October 15. During the Mass, the community had the pleasure of hearing from a special guest, Sister Christine Schenk, CSJ.
The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, is celebrated on the 15th day of autumn according to the lunar calendar each year. Every year at Saint Joseph Academy, students enrolled in Mandarin Chinese classes and members of the Asian Culture Club commemorate the Moon Festival by making mooncakes in the Dining Hall. These mooncakes symbolize unity and completeness.
Due to the rainy weather on Tuesday, the annual Pride Bowl tradition changed to a spirited Spelling Bee between the classes. Congratulations to Izabella Conrad '27 on winning the Spelling Bee! A special thank you to STUCO and the STUCO moderators, Mrs. Courtney Coz and Mr. Michael Shannon for organizing Pride Bowl and then quickly changing to the Spelling Bee!
The Class of 2029 was officially welcomed by the Class of 2026 on Friday, September 19 through the annual tradition that creates a bond between the two classes.
Department: World Languages Department. Mrs. Plesca teaches Spanish 2 and Honors Spanish 4. She is also an advisor for Freshman Advisory and a moderator for the Cosmetics Club, Italian Club and Spanish Club.
