Academy Humanities Scholars Explore Art History Careers

AHSP Scholars attended a presentation by Dr. Christine Wolken, who is an Associate Professor of Art History at Cuyahoga Community College. As part of her presentation, Dr. Wolken brought the Cleveland Museum of Art’s Art to Go program to help illustrate her career in humanities.

 

Students were able to hold and examine several ancient artifacts. As they examined the artifacts, the students discussed what each artifact might be and its purpose. Then, as a group, Cleveland Museum of Art staff members shared facts about the artifacts. 

 

Academy Humanities Scholar Karol Mansour ’26 shared the following about the Cleveland Museum of Art’s presentation, “There were many other cool pieces in the collection that they brought in, like an old oil lamp. It helped me look at things in a more observant way. Also there are many people with many different studies to help bring history to people and to operate a museum. Overall, it was a very cool experience.”

 

“I was so impressed by the Humanities Scholars' insightful questions for Dr. Wolken and the Cleveland Museum of Art staff,” Academy Humanities Scholars Program Director Mrs. Becky Goede McNulty ’96 shared. “They really embraced the interdisciplinary nature of archeology and art history, which is what studying the humanities is all about. After examining the artifacts from the museum, the students connected their lived experience and their studies in history, culture, and even science to make thoughtful claims about the origin and purpose of each piece.”
