Sumaiya Hegde '27
Accomplishments: Sumaiya was honored as one of the Top Volunteers in 2023 for Volunteer Hours with Youth Challenge (YC). During 2023, Sumaiya served 68.5 hours with the organization.
The mission of YC is to “bring together young people with physical disabilities and teen volunteers who inspire each other through adapted sports, recreation and social growth activities.”
“This honor has made me so happy for all the help I have given to YC,” Sumaiya shared. “It has been my honor serving with them.”
Sumaiya began volunteering with YC in middle school. “My favorite part of volunteering at YC is when the kids always ask who their partner is for a certain program and the staff usually surprises them,” Sumaiya shared. “I also love all the programs that everyone comes up with for the kids.”

Activities and Interests: At Saint Joseph Academy, Sumaiya is a member of the Asian Culture Club, Book Club and Jazz Band.
What is your favorite part about being a member of the Saint Joseph Academy community?: “My favorite part about being a member of the Saint Joseph Academy community is that many of my teachers and classmates are so helpful and kind,” Sumaiya shared. “Everyone here is caring and loving. All the activities are all wonderful and there are so many to choose from. I have great friends who are the best, and I could not be any more grateful for them.”
